I really don't understand it
Sep. 11th, 2026 09:00 amEvery morning, I have Ziggy (my Alexa) tell me to get my ass out of bed and tell me what I need for the day. Among the different modules I have are two national news outlets. Sometimes one gives more info, sometimes another talks about someone different.
This morning, CNN had a clip from the closing of the rally last night of JD Vance stating that the Democratic Party is the party of hate. It's not the first time I've heard this rhetoric and I still don't understand it.
The Democrats haven't been able to get out of their own way and have people leaving the party, but not because the party is too hateful for them but because the Dems can't agree on a message. And that, I get. I'm incredibly dissatisfied with the Dems inability to come together. But I don't see them as the party of hate.
The MAGAs are the ones with the "throw the baby out with the bathwater" mindset. The immigration policy has them rounding up anyone even suspected of being illegal, including those with valid visas. It is separating families, leaving minor children to face the immigration courts without representation.
They are the ones who are basically trying to outlaw transgender people, basically putting laws in place that they say is to protect others (especially children), yet makes it difficult for trans adults, let alone trans kids, to feel safe in their communities.
They are the ones wanting to put the Christian Church back into schools, while vilifying any other religion.
They are the ones eliminating diversity initiatives because they feel it hurts white Christian men by requiring quotas. They refuse to admit that they are privileged by not being a part of a subsection of the population that has, for generations, been told to look out for because they are dangerous, manipulative or down right evil. Unless people are made aware that are thinking of individuals as these stereotypes, they won't be able to work to combat it.
They are the ones giving the tax breaks to multi-billion dollar corporations, with the promise that the lie told 45 years ago (trickle down economics) would work and result in the hard working poor having a better life. Instead, these last 45 years have taught us that greed is eternal and a majority of large companies put profits over the welfare of their workers because they figure someone else will come along to work at shit wages because we all need to eat. The lower class gets larger as more of the middle class get squeezed down, and the upper class gets richer.
They are the ones that put the life of an unborn fetus above that of the mother. I'm not going to debate when life begins or the sanctity of unborn life. That is a philosophical debate for which we will probably never have a definitive answer. But the policies they have put in place are causing living women to be unable to get the medical care they need if the pregnancy endangers their life.
I honestly feel that MAGA is using doublespeak to make their voters feel that the hate is all coming from the left. And I don't understand it. I'm up for debating and listening, but if it starts to be uncivil, I will block and delete.
So is there anyone who can help me see where this is coming from?
